Quicktime Mpeg2 Playback Component Free Download Mac
Apr 02, 2011 mpeg-2 playback in Windows Media Player I am having issues with Windows Media Player playing back mpeg-2 (.mpg) encoded files. I am a video producer and render mpeg-2 (.mpg) files for broadcast using Adobe Media Encoder. Is there a free mpeg 2 codec? But it looks like those might not help you with playback. The note about mpeg2 on that site says you need either the apple one.

I am having issues with Windows Media Player playing back mpeg-2 (.mpg) encoded files. I am a video producer and render mpeg-2 (.mpg) files for broadcast using Adobe Media Encoder. Some of the files I render will not play all the way through smoothly in Windows Media Player, they will have a short break/freeze/whatever you wanna call it.
In my last test of 18 renders, 9 at a constant bit rate and 9 at a variable bit rate, I had 4 files that would have this short freeze on playback in Media Player. I need to play them back before sending them out to TV stations to make sure the files are good. When I play the files a second time in Media Player, the freeze will be in the same spot. When I encode with Windows Media Encoder, the freeze gets encoded into the wmv file (I send wmv for client approval). So I have a feeling it has something to do with how Windows Media is treating the file.
Now, when I encode that same mpg file (the one that won't play smoothly in Windows Media Player) into Adobe Media Encoder to a wmv for Windows, it encodes the file just fine. I updated my VLC Player from VideoLAN and that will play the mpeg-2 (mpg) files just fine. I can import the mpeg-2 (mpg) files into Adobe Premiere Pro and play them fine. So, now to the question.
Why is Windows Media Player having a difficult time with these files? Is there a problem with the mpeg-2 playback component in Windows? Hope this makes sense.
TC My system specs are: Win7 64-bit Pro, 2xXeon 5680 3.33, 24GB 1333 RAM, Quadro4000 Video Card, 300MB/s Internal RAID and 600 MB/s external RAID. I will admit that this is helpful, but not sure it applies. DVD playback and mpeg-2 playback components, as far as I know, are already built into the Professional version of Windows 7. I can play a DVD or DVD.VOB file with no problems (which are basically mpeg-2 files anyways). Plus when installing Adobe Production Premium, it installs additional video codecs on the PC.
I took those same problem files home and played them on my system that has Windows 7 Professional 64-bit as well. It had the exact same playback issues, in the exact spots. Although, VLC on my home PC as well, can play the files just fine. Whereas Media Player and Media Center both cannot. I admit there is a possibility that there could be a small error in the files themselves, but then all these other players are able to deal with it just fine, and Windows Media Player cannot. So then I'm back to the question. Do I trust that the files are actually fine when I send them to the TV stations when Media Player has this intermittent problem with a file?
Problem happens about 1 in every 4 mpeg-2 (.mpg) files. Or do I just not use Windows Media Player and assume that if VLC can play the files I am fine?
Then I have to encode all my Windows Media files with Adobe Media Encoder instead of Windows Media Encoder - which I know is not supported any longer by Microsoft. Totally bypassing Microsoft's video software along the way. Which is too bad because it is quick and easy to work with. Djmax trilogy 1.32 patch.
