I am doing another debian installation, same computer on another HD that previously had Vector linux. Debian Lenny stalled or failed at.or during select and install software. I tried goind down the line to see If I could install other options, those failed too.

I then tried to install win xp.that stalled on format as did win 98. I then tried Red Hat 7.2. And that installed successfully.

I am now trying again to install Lenny on top of Red Hat. But that failed too.

Frank Problem Solved, it was the CDrom drive, at the end, boot was slowing down, anything requiring cd was slowing down. Until the CD died completly, one death i did not lament,, Frank. It sounds like you need a more recent disk. Debian recently updated the GPG keys and it causes athenication of packages to fail during the install. I have went throught this my self. One way around this is to skip installing packages.

I recomend also skiping setting up the repository too as this will cause the same error when you goto install grub or lilo. I install grub first and then go back and setup my repositories. But I skip the installing packages all togeather. Then whe I reboot I can install all the updates and rerun apt-get update and everything is fine again. Best of luck, Michael.

I dont know if that had a bearing on the problem. I have only done Guided Partioning before. Right now it is installing the:'base system', I do not know if I already went beyond the steps you suggested.

You can still do the automatic partitioning if you wish. Just accept all the defaults and then skip installing the packages and setting up the repositories.

All the other defaults should be fine. Just remember to install Grub before you activate the repositories or it will still fail. Hello again Mike: I got further this time, I thought I had solved problem. It went to reboot, had me remove installation CD. I got a screenfull Of I/0 errors.

I entered my password than typed fsck and I got simlilar error message. Ps.it went into reboot as if the installation was complete this time, but failed as noted above. It did not let me install grub without installing the 'base system: 7:50 edit.

Seems ok so far, expert screen with a # root prompt waiting for me. Not sure what to enter but no error messages yet at this point.

I did another install and got the same message on a different HD. After the INSTALL SOFTWARE failure you get a blue Desktop or screen.
