Bmw E46 Firing Circuit Drivers Airbag
I did the search. My 2002 E39 has had the airbag light on for a while now and I want to get it cleared. I bought the Peake reset tool and went to work on this issue. The car run fine, no problems there. The code reader shows code 0b which in the table reads: Firing Circuit, Battery Safety Switch 1. Searching on the web brought up that this has something to do with the Battery Safety Terminal which in the event of an accident, it blows and cuts all battery power. I would like to find out how these things relate to each other and cause the airbag light to go on.
If I clear the code, it comes right back on once I start the car. I would thing if the device went bad (blew) I would not be able to start the car. I read where the fix for this device is replacing the battery cable from the battery all the way up to the engine. I received a write up where a special splice can be used so only part of the cable needs to be replaced. Has anybody run into this situation and found the fix?
Please pass the fix, I would be most appreciative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2002 Sterling Gray, Black and Aluminum interior UUC Short Shifter & DSSR UUC Clutch Stop UUC Transmission Supports UUC UltraSmooth CeraMetallic Clutch/LWF Active Autowerks Cold Ram Air Intake - Modified Air Plenum Heat Shield, 1700 degree black Jet-Hot coating Alpine amp for JL Audio Sub Woofers UFMotorsport S62 Intake Air Temp Sensor Relocation Dinan Stage II Suspension Dinan 3.45 Rear Diff. 2002 Sterling Gray, Black and Aluminum interior UUC Short Shifter & DSSR UUC Clutch Stop UUC Transmission Supports UUC UltraSmooth CeraMetallic Clutch/LWF Active Autowerks Cold Ram Air Intake - Modified Air Plenum Heat Shield, 1700 degree black Jet-Hot coating Alpine amp for JL Audio Sub Woofers UFMotorsport S62 Intake Air Temp Sensor Relocation Dinan Stage II Suspension Dinan 3.45 Rear Diff. 2002 Sterling Gray, Black and Aluminum interior UUC Short Shifter & DSSR UUC Clutch Stop UUC Transmission Supports UUC UltraSmooth CeraMetallic Clutch/LWF Active Autowerks Cold Ram Air Intake - Modified Air Plenum Heat Shield, 1700 degree black Jet-Hot coating Alpine amp for JL Audio Sub Woofers UFMotorsport S62 Intake Air Temp Sensor Relocation Dinan Stage II Suspension Dinan 3.45 Rear Diff. The airbag module measures the resistance in the firing circuit and if its out of spec will turn on the airbag light. If you had a GT1 you could see if it was currently present, how many times the fault occured and run a test plan to check the resistance (on some cars). Unfortunately the peake tool just list the fault code and won't tell you that info, but the fact that it comes right back means its bad. I've never done one on a E39 but some BMWs have a terminal in the trunk which connects the cable from the front of the car to the BST on the battery cable.
